On September 21st, 2007, more than 220 nurses, therapists, midwives, doulas and other professionals gathered for the PSI of WA conference, Beyond the Birth: Current Trends in Treating Perinatal & Postpartum Mood Disorders. The conference helped spread the word about Postpartum Mood Disorders to a wide variety of populations. Many people attended from rural areas, and some from other states. Feedback on the conference was very positive, and the day was a big success. Following the conference, on October 20th, 2007, a special benefit concert called Mama Rising was presented for PSI of WA, featuring woman-centered music and artists. The concert was hosted by a local mom who had previously experienced PPMD, and used the services of PSI of WA in her recovery process. The event also featured information on postpartum support, including area support groups, businesses that support new mothers and families, as well as original paintings, photography, slings, cloth diapers, jewelry, and other items made by local mothers. For more information you can visit www.mamarising.org, as she plans to make this an annual event.
