Postpartum Support International of Washington (formerly known as Depression After Delivery of Washington) is a non-profit organization, established in 1987 by Dawn Gruen, ACSW, and Lisa Bishop. PSI of WA was designed to support and educate women, families, and professionals about Postpartum Mood Disorders. As a chapter of DAD, PSI of WA was one of the longest-running DAD chapters in the country, thanks to the hard work and dedication of its volunteers.

PSI of WA provides an opportunity for women who have experienced and recovered from a Postpartum Mood Disorder to work as volunteers to help other mothers struggling with PPMD. Over the years we have provided Warm Line phone support for mothers, drop-in support groups, and educational materials. We have also held conferences for professionals to increase awareness and understanding in the professional community. All phone volunteers must have personally experienced PPMD and fully recovered prior to volunteer service. Other volunteer position within PSI of WA do not have the requirement of first hand experience with PPMD.

Our main sources of income have been sales of the Beyond the Birth booklet, small fundraisers, and donations by generous individuals and organizations. Currently, we need to increase our funding support in order to continue to provide these services as well as to increase our outreach to those who have not yet had access to us. We are working hard to continue to spread our resources and information through the entire state of Washington, and have recently added two State Co-Coordinators in the Spokane area to help us achieve this goal.

Postpartum Support International of Washington is a non-profit organization, run solely by volunteers. Our phone line and affiliated support group services are offered free of charge. Donations are much needed, gladly accepted, and always appreciated.
